Heather R. Klein

Born in Maryland, at 2 years of age Heather's family relocated to Ft. Myers, Florida, where she attended grade school and middle school before the family decided to relocate to peaceful LaBelle, Florida, amidst the orange groves, on the picturesque Okeechobee Waterway. There Heather attended and graduated from LaBelle High School. Following graduation and knowing exactly the career path she wanted to pursue it was off to Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Heather received her undergraduate degree and then her Juris Doctor Degree from Nova Southeastern University’s Sheppard Broad Law School.

Heather met her husband, Tom, in Ft. Lauderdale. Tom has been a big admirer of Alleghany County, NC, since 1975 when his parents established permanent residence in Laurel Springs. Tom & Heather often made the trip from Florida to visit and it didn't take long for the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and tranquil Alleghany County to have the same effect on Heather. She and Tom purchased a summer home here in 1997 and in 2000 left the hustle and bustle of south Florida behind to call Alleghany County home. At that time, she did not realize how deep her North Carolina and Virginia roots were. Her mother's side of the family is from Kenly, North Carolina, having been cotton and tobacco farmers from before 1760 and her father's side of the family is from Floyd and Wytheville, Virginia, from at least 1700.

Heather takes great pride in the local community. She is active as a member of the Rotary Club since 2008 and is a Paul Harris Society member, a past board of director for the Alleghany Wellness Center, Inc., Alleghany Community Television, Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce, the attorney for the Alleghany Human Rights Committee. Heather has also enjoyed being a big sister with the Alleghany Connections Program and participating in Locks of Love for women with cancer.

She is admitted to practice in the United States District Court Western District of North Carolina, 23rd Judicial District and the State of North Carolina, and is an approved attorney with the North Carolina Attorney General for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Additionally, Heather a member of the Real Property Section of the North Carolina State Bar, the General Practitioners Section of the North Carolina State Bar, and past Secretary and President of the 23rd Judicial District Bar Association. She is also a member of RELANC (Real Estate Lawyers Association of North Carolina) which holds its members to a higher standard of practice in real estate transactions. She is the current Alleghany County attorney, having taken this position in 2021.

In her free time (yes, she does manage some free time), Heather enjoys meandering along back roads, reading, cooking, and baking. She and Tom enjoy traveling when they can. At home they enjoy their furry four-legged friends, all of which are rescued pets, and home renovation projects to their 1903 home. Heather and Tom love living out in the countryside and can't get enough of the Alleghany County sunsets from their porch.
